Excess

In some cases we deduct an excess from the compensation we pay out. This applies to material damage caused by unknown vehicles required to have motor third party liability (MTPL) insurance, such as passenger cars, lorries or mopeds.

By material damage is meant a claim affecting a physical object. Injuries to animals and vehicles are also counted as material damage. Common examples are parking claims and knocked-down fences.

One exception is reindeer killed in traffic. We do not deduct any excess for those claims.

For claims incurred this year (2025) the excess is SEK 2,940. This is governed by Section 16 of the Motor Traffic Damage Act and is five per cent of the price base amount in the year the claim was incurred.

The excess is deducted before we pay the compensation to you.
