We process personal data in our operations. The legal basis for Swedish Motor Insurers’ processing is a legitimate interest in being able to administrate the operations, fulfil contracts and comply with a legal obligation. We apply current data protection legislation for all processing of personal data.

Swedish Motor Insurers is a cooperation body for motor insurance companies in Sweden and we play a central role in the Swedish motor insurance system. We process personal data as part of our loss adjustment, handling of the motor insurance charge and administration of the Road Traffic Injuries Commission. We also process names and addresses of contacts at member companies, which is mainly done by the central staff function, but also by others within Swedish Motor Insurers. Within the framework of its operations, Swedish Motor Insurers also cooperates with companies, organisations and authorities.

Information on how we process personal data can be found under each area of operations:

Swedish Motor Insurers deals with some insurance matters for motor vehicles as part of the voluntary industry cooperation in Sweden. This work is done by the Motor Insurance Committee (BFK). We also deal with matters in the context of the Personal Injury Committee (PSK).

We also adjust claims concerning frontier insurance taken out through the Swedish Customs Service, in accordance with the Motor Insurance Ordinance.

As part of international motor insurance cooperation, Swedish Motor Insurers has the role of Green Card Bureau, Guarantee Fund, Compensation Body, Information Centre and Claims Representative.

What data do we register and why?

To be able to administrate operations within our areas of responsibility we process names of contacts at Swedish Motor Insurers’ member companies, insurance companies, representatives and employees of authorities, employees of sub-contractors and consultants that work with Swedish Motor Insurers, employees of companies or organisations that cooperate with Swedish Motor Insurers, members of the public who put questions, politicians or other persons and names of persons who take out frontier insurance, as well as registration numbers in some cases.

We need to process the data to be able to administrate the operations. The data has been provided by member companies, insurance companies, contact persons and persons wishing to take out frontier insurance. Some of the data you have yourself submitted but we have also received data from insurance companies.

Who can see your personal data?

Those who process your case or otherwise process this type of data within Swedish Motor Insurers can see your personal data. In some cases our IT staff can also see the data when troubleshooting or developing the systems.

As a principal rule, we and those to whom we provide data only process your personal data within the EU/EEA. In some cases data may be provided to a third country within the framework of the international Green Card system.

How long do we save your data?

We do not save your personal data longer than necessary and the data is deleted when no longer needed for the operations.

Personal data related to an agreement is culled as soon as possible after the contractual relationship has ceased, unless longer retention is required by other legislation or contract.
