Russia has become a member of the Green Card system

Russia, via the Russian Association of Motor Insurers (RAMI), has been granted membership of the Green Card system from 1 January 2009. This means that Russian vehicles that travel directly to Sweden from Russia do not need to take out frontier insurance at the border if they have the Green Card, the international proof of motor insurance. In future, Swedish motorists travelling to Russia can also use their own motor insurance in combination with the Green Card.
